I've been talking most of my life... but now I'm ready to be heard!
Warning, demos are full volume. :)
The journey of 1000 miles begins with a single demo.
Just a shy kid who didn't want to be shy when he grew up.
Mission. Accomplished.
I was not comfortable with public speaking as a youngster but I challenged myself to get over... myself. I learned that injecting humor and letting some character shine through can make even a dull speech into something worth hearing. By the time I graduated college I had found my voice with a leading role in a show and as a DJ on the campus radio station. It would be a few more years before I found my voices when reading books to my kid. That's when I realized I had always enjoyed speaking but I never really wanted to be heard.
That's all changed now. I've been the president of the local Toastmasters chapter, sung in public and with a barbershop group, presented countless meetings at the office, given tech talks, hosted a podcast, hosted corporate trainings, told stories to children & spun yarns for adults. While working with some professional storytellers I realized I have a story to tell. My tale is only just beginning so I'm not ready to tell it just yet. For now, I'll be happy to tell your story, give a voice to your character or read your script... in a honey baritone with a dollop of sincerity, a dash of humor & a drop of the mic. If that's something you need, drop me a line. I'm ready to be heard!
The Roaring 2020s
Speaking is easy but working as a speaker? I've tried putting the cart before the horse, looking through the wrong end of the telescope, counting chickens before they hatch, leading horses to water, jumping guns, spitting into the wind... but learning from my missteps!
The Verdant 2010s
This was when I found my future calling: Sitting on the floor with a kid on my lap or next to me on a comfy seat, giving voices to Dr. Seuss, Bill Peet, Golden Books, Richard Scarry, Roald Dahl, and scores of others. Meanwhile, at my 9-to-5, I keep hearing that I sound like one of those "radio guys". Could it be true?
The Tumultuous 2000s
A good time to set up a foundation for the life I would eventually want to lead, but I wasn't the person I wanted to be or working my dream job. I started getting back to my roots which included actual roots! Add in grass, trees, water & nature and I was finally home.
The Halcyon '90s
Ah, youth! Breaking the mold, breaking out of my shell, making a break for it but never breaking bad, often flat broke but still breaking the silence and going for broke. Someday I'll fill these in with something more meaningful but thanks for reading this far!
